Dr. Kelly A. Wiechman
Adjunct Faculty of French

Dr. Wiechman earned her first B.A. in Administrative Studies from the University of California at Riverside and her B.A. in French with minors in Secondary Education and Geology from the College of Charleston. At the University of Florida, she earned her M.A. in French and Francophone Studies and her Ph.D. in Romance Languages with a concentration in French and Francophone Studies and a minor in Linguistics. Contributing to an 800 page corpus at the University of Florida on French hip hop and rap, her Master’s thesis focused on the lexicon in these two musical styles. Dr. Wiechman’s dissertation focused on the sociolinguistic outcomes of francophone immigration to South Carolina from 1562-1810. While at the University of Florida, Dr. Wiechman served as Graduate Research Assistant to Dr. William Calin and Dr. Hélène Blondeau. Current research interests include sociolinguistics, historical and contact linguistics, onomastics, phonetics, phonology,, lexicology, and migration studies. Dr. Wiechman has participated on an international panel in Canada, and presented research talks in the United States, Canada, and Martinique.
